According to Spring 19, it should now be possible to upload files as a Guest Community user.

But if you try either of,

  1. <lightning:fileUpload>
  2. . <lightning:input aura:id="fileId" onchange="{!c.handleFilesChange}" type="file" name="file" label="{!v.label}"> along with custom Apex (Without sharing)

it fails to upload files, I tried this against a custom object.

Simple Lightning component example below:

<lightning:fileUpload  aura:id="fileUploader" label= "Documents" multiple="true"
 recordId="{!v.fdw.app.Id}" onuploadfinished="{! c.handleUploadFinished }"/>

Debug logs for Community guest user seems to be giving error while creating ContentDocumentLink.

Any helpful thoughts to get File upload working for Community guest users? Much Appreciated. Thanks!

  • Are you assigning owner of the files uploaded by guest users? Commented May 21, 2019 at 4:13
  • Hi @SantanuBoral Thanks for comment, Contact record is created first (which is expected parent id of File) and it would be owned by Guest user implicitly. I could see the contact owner as guest community user in SF instance. The error propagated when we try to insert the file. Commented May 21, 2019 at 4:36

There are two septs you need to follow to allow guests when "Secure Guest User Record Access" is enabled.

Step 1: Setup > General Settings > Allow site guest users to upload files

Step 2: If Guest users need to attach file to the record. The Guest user should at least have read access to the record.

Use Sharing Set to share the record with Guest User. https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=networks_setting_light_users.htm&type=5&sfdcIFrameOrigin=null

Another option to share the record with Guest Users is using Sharing Rule. https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=ls_guest_sharing_criteria.htm&type=5&sfdcIFrameOrigin=null

Make sure that you have the Allow site users to upload files option ticked and the record is shared with the Guest user with at least read access. That should solve the issue.

Found below workaround example which seems to work,

But notably,

  1. Owner need to be assigned to internal user
  2. This workaround failed for any image files (pdf, doc, excel, ppt, txt seems to work)

Component markup:

<!-- configurable attribute -->
<aura:attribute name="parentId" type="String" required="true"/>
<aura:attribute name="fieldLabel" type="String" default="Upload Attachment"/>
<aura:attribute name="instantUpload" type="boolean" default="false" />
<aura:attribute name="buttonLabel" type="String" default="Upload"/>
<aura:attribute name="refreshAfterUpload" type="boolean" default="false"/>

<!-- internal use -->
<aura:attribute name="showLoadingSpinner" type="boolean" default="false" />
<aura:attribute name="fileName" type="String" default="No File Selected.." />

<b>Custom File upload</b>

<aura:if isTrue="{!v.showLoadingSpinner}">
