A Connected-App is an integration of an application with a Salesforce Org using APIs that uses standard SAML and OAuth protocols to authenticate, provide Single Sign-On, and provide tokens for use with Salesforce APIs. Admins have the ability to set security policies and have explicit control over who may use the connected application which runs external to Salesforce.
