  • can you update your question and ask with proper language so that it can be clearly understandable Commented Feb 4, 2017 at 4:33

  • you can create custom settings, put the order of column number, column headers of excel and Contact API names. Now loop the list from the excel row and try to map the columns and finally put that in a map, and then insert the map Commented Feb 4, 2017 at 4:55

Approach

1) Create a Custom Metadata Type (Contact_Metadata_Type__mdt) which will store Index and Contact API Names. This index should exactly match with the column index of the excel.

Contact metadata

2) Now loop through the excel rows and match the index of the column and store data in Contact object instance. Finally insert the data.

I have given comments in the code.

public void importCSVFile(){
       try{
           List<Contact> lstcontact = new List<Contact>();
           csvAsString = csvFileBody.toString();
           csvFileLines = csvAsString.split('\n');

            //retrive custom metadata types
            Map<Integer, String> settingsMap = new Map<Integer, String>();
            Contact_Metadata_Type__mdt[] contactRptData = [SELECT MasterLabel,
                                                                    column_Index__c,
                                                                    API_Name__c
                                                            FROM Contact_Metadata_Type__mdt];
            //put in order and API Names
            for(Contact_Metadata_Type__mdt obj: contactRptData)
            {
                settingsMap.put(obj.column_Index__c, obj.API_Name__c);
            }

            //loop through the lines
           for(Integer i=1;i<csvFileLines.size();i++){
               Contact conObj = new Contact() ;
               string[] csvRecordData = csvFileLines[i].split(',');

               //for each line go through column by column and find the index from settinsMap
               for(Integer p=0; p<csvRecordData.size(); p++)
               {
                   //prepare map like this:
                   //conObj.put(CONTACT API NAME, CONTACT DATA FROM EACH COLUMN);
                   conObj.put(settingsMap.get(p), csvRecordData[p]);
               }

               lstcontact.add(accObj);
           }
        insert lstcontact;
        }
        catch (Exception e)
        {
            ApexPages.Message errorMessage = new ApexPages.Message(ApexPages.severity.ERROR,'An error has occured while importin data Please make sure input csv file is correct');
            ApexPages.addMessage(errorMessage);
        }
  }

Note: I haven't compiled the code. Only tried to put logic properly. This approach should work.

  • I have not hardcoded anything here, specified which index will refer to which API Names, otherwise how can you map? Even if you try to upload record from the dataloader you have to specify mapping. Hopefully, you have understood Commented Feb 4, 2017 at 6:08
  • iam facing one issuse if tried to upload a csv of 5 records,then in updated list size is 6,if i tried to delete the last,it is showing exception index out of bonds
