@Andrei.Z

Here is what I'm talking about:

enter image description here

Here is my new .csv updated:

Employee_Name__c,Employee_Status__c
Erich Schulz,Active
Joe Dohn,Active
Walter Anderson,InActive
David Hudson,InActive

END

I'm have the following code i'm trying to import the .csv file but it does not looks like its not even going through the loop to display the data in <apex:pageblocktable, so what is happening is that, i browse and select the .csv file and click on upload csv button and does not loop the data and show it in pageblocktable. i have few records as shown below.

I'm following this reference link

I have the following .csv data file:

Employee Name,Employee Status
Erich Schulz,Active
Joe Dohn,Active
Walter Anderson,InActive
David Hudson,InActive

  • (1) what does your debug line contactDataLines show? (2) add rerender="datapanel" to your commandButton; (3) as an aside - this is a somewhat fragile csv parser but might be OK for your limited use case (a) column names must be sobject fieldname and b) no support for embedded cell value of comma or line break.

  • 1) i see my .csv data 4 rows 2) if i add rerender on commandButton i'm getting this error apex:inputFile can not be used in conjunction with an action component, apex:commandButton or apex:commandLink that specifies a rerender or oncomplete attribute. 3) do you know any better csv parser? i have added sobject fieldname please see my updated question

  • Instead of this : contactDataLines = contactDataAsString.split('\n'); try contactDataLines = contactDataAsString.split('\r'); and get a count of the number of lines in your CSV record. Commented May 31, 2016 at 2:07
  • @RichardDurrant: it does work after changing from \n to \r, post this as answer.

Change the \n to \r and you should get the correct number of rows in the contactDataLines variable.

the problem is inside your CSV file Header must contain API names, not labels, change

Employee Name

to

Employee_Name__c

this is a prediction as you do not show object, API name can be different. I tried this on Contact and custom fields in Contact and works fine.

@Nick Kahn, I tried the exact code you have posted and its working fine with record insertion as Andrei.Z said, if your custom fields look like below:

Employee_Upload__c

or

you can use the Standard field 'Name' (80 chars limit) instead of custom field (Employee_Name__c), then need to change input CSV as Name,Employee_Status__c

I have tried your exact code and link its perfectly working ,

Important Point CSV file Header must contain API names, not labels
