Salesforce offers its customers the option to purchase special licenses that allows an Organization's employees, customers, partners and non-SalesforceCRM licensed Users access to a limited subset of standard Salesforce Objects and Content, plus custom objects via a secure "portal" called a community which can have many features. Many of those features are license dependent as is access and sharing of records. Communities are highly customizable.
