I have a user who can see only a subset of the Activities for an Account/Contact and I'm trying to figure out why. Although I suspect it's due to "Grant Access Using Hierarchies" and the Activity Owner (Assigned To), I don't see where this is documented.

According to the Salesforce documentation:

A user can perform an action (such as view, edit, transfer, and delete) on an activity based on whether he or she can perform that same action on the records associated with the activity.

For example, if a task is associated with the Acme account and the John Smith contact, then a user can only edit that task if he or she can also edit the Acme account and the John Smith record.

I'm interpreting this as: If a task is associated with the Acme account and the John Smith contact, then a user can read that task if he or she can also read the Acme account and the John Smith record.

But this is not the case. The user can see only a subset of the Activities associated with the Account and Contact combination.

It's worth mentioning that these Activities are actually Events, but I'm assuming these fall under the same sharing settings as Activities based on this help article.

Why would the user not see all Activities for an Account/Contact they have read access on? It seems that based on the quoted documentation above, they should.

Thanks!
