I have a lightning flow where a an outcome in a decision component is defined on a custom formula field checkbox set to true. But the flow still moves on the default outcome even when the field is set to true. Here is my condition for the outcome:

Abnormal_variance__c Equals $GlobalConstant.trueenter image description here

Can anyone help me figure out what I am missing. Formula fields are used in workflow rules and Process Builder criterias so I don't see any reason for them to not work in flows or is that not the case? Any help will be appreciated.

  • what kind of flow is this? (i.e. record-trigger before? after? auto=launched? ...)

  • This is a record-triggered (after record is saved) flow

  • Is Abnormal Variance bound to the $Record variable associated with the triggered record?

  • Yes. This is stored on the record that got created. $Record.Abnormal Variance

  • formula fields should be available; you'll need to edit your post with more details

I believe that formula fields are calculated only after the conditions under which said formula fields change are set.

The amount of time that passes is arbitrary, so flows should never be triggered in response to the calculation of a formula field.

You may look into creating a trigger for it instead. There's no real reason why that should do a better job than the flow, as their function is essentially the same, but I have heard there's some success with going that route.

If all else fails, trigger the flow to run on the conditions under which the formula is supposed to change. That could make things messy, but that's always an option.
