I have an import activity which fetches the file from MArketing cloud FTP and updates the All Subscriber List(also tried to update/add/overwrite All Subscribers List and a test Data Extention as well).

The file is created sucessfully on the FTP before the import activity is run but when we run the import activity, it runs sucessfully but does not update/add/overwrite the All Subscribers List or the Test Data Extention.

How to solve this issue as we cannot debug anything on the UI and the import activity is running Sucessfully.

  • Simple question but have you double checked the file name in the FTP matches the file being imported? Do you get a email notification with a file containing what records have been missed? if theres a error with the file or data the import completes but some records get skipped. Issue usually arises due to required fields being missing. – Noor Alam Nov 21 at 1:27

How do you reference the filename in your import activity? %%FILENAME_FROM_TRIGGER%%? – Lukas Lunow Nov 21 at 21:03
  • @NoorAlam yes the filename is matching the file being imported. Now it is updating the data in the Data Extention but when I import the data to all subscribers list, it does not update the status of the Subscriber on the All Subscriber list and not error after running the activity comes up. – Jitesh Goel Nov 23 at 14:45
  • @LukasLunow the file name is "DeactivateSubscriber.csv" and it opening up in a .csv file format. Also, Now it is updating the data in the Data Extention but when I import the data to all subscribers list, it does not update the status of the Subscriber on the All Subscriber list and not error after running the activity comes up. – Jitesh Goel Nov 23 at 14:46
  • @JiteshGoel - are you running this automation in ENT or child BU? In order to update All Subs, it needs to be done in ENT. – Lukas Lunow Nov 23 at 14:48

There's a lot of things that can go wrong here, and Noor Alam called out a great one in the comments section regarding the right file name and location in your import activity. Here's a few other things that can commonly go wrong in the import process:

  • Your CSV file is using an unsupported or mismatched encoding method
  • Your CSV file is missing required field data
  • Your CSV file contains addresses that are being removed by ListDetective

What exactly does the import confirmation message contain? It usually gives details about the errors it encounters.

  • @JiteshGoel Are you sending an import log to your inbox? What method are you using? – Matthew Wash Nov 24 at 16:14
  • yes, I have added the email adress in the notification for error log or skipped run and completion as well. – Jitesh Goel Nov 24 at 16:47
