I have a sendable data extension, that is coming from a salesforce report. There are contacts in the extension with email addresses. The Lead ID is mapped to the Subscriber Key. It is NOT a triggered send. It is a normal sent via a journey with the data extension as entry source. the contacts are entering the journey, but they dont get the email (they are not yet on the all subscribers list) and are not added to the subscribers list. No email to these new contacts is sent out.

First picture: this is the error in the journey. The contacts do enter the journey, but the send fails. Could there be a wrong configuration about where to pull the email from? I have added the picture below. For default email address: I would like to use Email Attribute form Entry source, but there is no Attribute to be chosen. What is the right selection for that category?

Thanks! enter image description here enter image description here

  • Is your sendable data extension related to the Contact in Data Designer? – Matthew Wash Oct 24 '19 at 18:55
  • Journey Builder send is indeed a triggered send :) Are you familiar with the high water mark concept? success.salesforce.com/answers?id=9063A000000pl5dQAA – zuzannamj Oct 24 '19 at 18:57
  • @zuzannamj : it is a new journey (for testing) no contact was in before. contacts are allowed to re-enter. – yoyo08 Oct 25 '19 at 14:13
  • @MatthewWash they are related, but I need to do some more testing there. Is there not a some step like make a DE sendable or add the DE to the journey where it adds it to the Data Designer automatically? At any rate they are connected at the moment. – yoyo08 Oct 25 '19 at 14:17

It's my understanding that all Journey Builder Sends are technically triggered sends. Journey builder seems to be using an API call to send the email because it has to be able to push an email to an individual any time the action is triggered (like being added to a data extension). Otherwise, the system would need to create a new job for every single person that goes through the Journey.

If you need it to not be a triggered send. You would need to put together a drip campaign using query and user-initiated send interactions in Automation Studio. You can then run the automation every hour or so...but it won't be "instant" like Journey Builder.

If you are looking for tracking to confirm that the email was actually sent out - you can take a look at the _Sent data views or find them in the Journey Builder Sends section under tracking.

  • I read that I need to make special configurations for triggered sends.what was it? you are writing "If you are looking for... to confirm that the email was acutally sent out" they are not sent out and they are not added to the all subscriber list. – yoyo08 Oct 25 '19 at 14:19
