Today if I create a public link to a file:

enter image description here

The url link opens the file previewer:

Can I create a link that downloads the file immediately without the previewer?

  • Have you tried /sfc/servlet.shepherd/document/download/069XXXXXXXXXXXX ? – AvailableName Dec 16 '18 at 12:45
  • @AvailableName this link does not work. it is not in a programming manner - I get the public link in a standard point and click way – Itai Shmida Dec 16 '18 at 13:04
  • Does the link not work? Or is it a code vs. clicks problem? If it's the latter, you can make a simple trigger to set the value of a field on the related object. – AvailableName Dec 16 '18 at 13:23
  • first - I do not want to use any code or trigger, only standard use - therefore if a user uploads a file and make a public link (like in the attached picture), I want this link to be only downloadable, without the file previewer. I do not want the user that uploaded the file to mess with a url or hack it. – Itai Shmida Dec 16 '18 at 13:28
  • The documentation clearly says, When you create a public link to a file, anyone who has the link can view and download the file. Even if you set your browser setting to download the file instead of opening it in view mode, The public link behavior will not get override. – sanket kumar Dec 17 '18 at 4:52

You can define the file upload and download behaviour using file upload and download settings for predefined file formats.

Could you flesh this out a little? Perhaps include a link to a documentation reference? – David Reed Jan 24 '19 at 19:30
  • @alokverma and how do I do that? – Itai Shmida Jan 24 '19 at 23:48
