We have a requirement where we need to move all the documents to File to make them available in lightning. We tried to export all the documents using fileExporter (AppExchange app), but we are facing some issues.

Please let me know if anyone has done this or know how to do.

An industrialized approach would be to use an ETL to extract the Attachments and transform them to Content Document (and version) to then reimport them. Some Open Source ETLs have a Salesforce connector (without mentioning them).

The macro-execution would be:

  • Extracting the Attachments and their related records IDs
  • Map and transform the Attachment to a Content Document and Content (Document) Version (see the documentation for more information)
  • Import the Document and Document Version with the right linking to the related records.

Hope this helps,

Doug Ayers wrote an app for just this purpose: https://douglascayers.com/2015/10/10/salesforce-convert-attachments-to-chatter-files/

It installs directly into your Salesforce instance and can convert your Attachments into Content records (Files).
