This is probably an amazingly simple one but here goes:

I have a Sendable Data Extension. Every time a contact (or row) is added to that Data Extension I want them to enter into a journey – I need the contacts going into the journey in real-time.

I've tried creating an API event - which doesn't seem to work.
I've tried using Audiences but it will only review the new data every hour.
I've used fire events in automation studio in the past.
I've also seen a question posted which is pretty much the same question as mine - but the only answer presented was that i should use smart capture forms and create a journey entry event from that (in my situation this is not an option).

If you want to inject records to journey in real-time, way to go is to use API Event Data Entry Source in your journey, and then use Interaction-Event request, from Marketing Cloud's REST api (vide https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.noversion.mc-apis.meta/mc-apis/postEvent.htm )

Some thing that needs to be taken into account (this could solve your problem with API event):

  • DATA part of this request will always create entry in associated with that event Data Extension
  • You cannot select already present record
  • You can trigger event successfully (receive OK return and see that record is created in Data Extension) even if the entry criteria or re-entry mode will bounce contact from entry to the journey
  • Journey history is your friend - it is easy to debug this solution using this page in Journey Builder
  • Dependently on interactions, that you want to include in your journey, sometimes you need to create subscriber before, to have it working without any problem (I had case with sending SMS straight after invoking the journey - solution was to create subscriber with proper Mobile Connect attribute sets and then invoke the journey, which sent that SMS; from other had - sending an email straight from journey will create subscriber for you)
  • Hi @Will, were you able to get this done. I have exact same scenario. – Krati Garg Oct 12 '18 at 7:51
