I'm trying to complete this trailhead challenge, but keep being notified that the rules don't check out. That doesn't seem to be the case when I attempt to change the Mailing Postal code on the contact record. Not sure what I could be doing wrong here.

Challenge Error Message

Here's my validation rule formula:

    MailingPostalCode != Account.ShippingPostalCode

Your validation rule looks well-formed and thought out to me.

About the only thing I can think of is that the challenge fails to mention what should happen if AccountId is populated, but Account.ShippingPostalCode is blank.

I'd like to say again that I like the validation rule you've come up with. All 3 components do seem sensible (and I would include all of them myself if I were writing such a validation rule in practice), but the important bit here is that including the check to see if MailingPostalCode is blank is an assumption on your part rather than explicitly laid out in the requirements provided by the challenge.

  • Thanks for the response, Derek! The instructions say that the error should only fire if the Mailing Postal code is not blank. I'm not sure how else I would formulate the rule without this check? Any thoughts?

  • @TUAdmin Do they? The image you included with your question doesn't explicitly state that the validation should only fire if Mailing Postal Code is not blank.

   (BillingPostalCode) <> (ShippingPostalCode)
