I have a formula field on opportunities that calculates the Tier/Importance of an opportunity by looking at 'product purchased' and 'no. of licences purchased'.

I'm now trying to find a way to pull this field back up to the account level so at a glance you can see which customer type accounts have the highest Tier. Is there a way to get this value back to the account?

I tried using process builder - this worked when opportunities are closed (trigger) and so I was left with a load of accounts with blank values from opps that have closed in the past.

Any advice?

  • but an Account could have multiple Opportunities, each with a different tier. What value is rolled up to the Account? – cropredy Jun 15 '17 at 16:43

Create a workflow rule on the Opportunity to fire whenever "created, and every time edited" that updates a field on the account record with your formula result.

Then extract all your opportunity ID's to a .CSV and update with the dataloader, this will fix/update all the existing records.
