I have a formula field with return type 'currency' and it uses a custom setting field in formula

Formula is something like this :-

IF(AND(Invoice_Date__c <  $Setup.New_Cust_Sett__c.date_field__c    ,
Amount_Remaining__c != 0),
 IF(AND(  $Setup.New_Cust_Sett__c.date_field__c -Invoice_Date__c > 1,
$Setup.New_Cust_Sett__c.date_field__c   -Invoice_Date__c <= 30),
Amount_Remaining__c , 0.00)

I need to summarize on the result of this field in a parent object field. And i can see Rollup summary on cross object formula field is not possible till now. https://success.salesforce.com/ideaview?id=08730000000Bra0AAC

So does someone know any alternative of this?

Any help would be really appreciated!!!

In this case, what you can do is:

  1. Create a new field of type currency and put it on page layout, but make it read only from page layout.
  2. You can write a process builder to populate this value. Process builder is just like a workflow but with many more capabilities and good UI. Please refer the below link to learn more about Process Builders. https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=process_overview.htm&type=0

This way, your new currency field will hold the same value as formula field, and it will be available when you will try creating a rollup field.

  • If i will not edit the record, Will process builder trigger if formula field value changes?

  • No, the value of new currency field will not change automatically. You have to edit the record for reflecting the change, and then rollup will be updated automatically. Is field Invoice_Date__c is a formula field? or $Setup.New_Cust_Sett__c.date_field__c is going to change very frequently? Jun 1 '17 at 7:02
  • No Invoice_Date__c is a date field and yes $Setup.New_Cust_Sett__c.date_field__c value will change. There will be huge records i cant go to each to update them. There is no any other way?

  • If needed, you can run a dummy update using dataloader on all the records if your custom setting value changes rarely. Otherwise, please upvote the idea. :) success.salesforce.com/ideaView?id=08730000000Bra0AAC Jun 1 '17 at 7:14
  • Can i trigger something if my custom setting value changes. Can you explain a bit?
