I would ask what You think about pure SOQL queries in code base, without boxing all of the into services? What are the advantages of using them directly in code, or maybe why I should avoid that? Thanks

    You have apparently not worked in large enough code bases to realize the benefits of separation of concerns in your solutions. Not all projects require a full 'enterprise' stack with many discrete layers but encapsulating common logic in a 'service' layer and not embedding that logic in multiple places in the codebase is almost always a good thing.
