I am trying to create a report and running into some issue. I would appreciate if anyone can give me any insights to solve this.

Report of all Contacts that has atleast 1 'active' financial account linked to it.

I tried 2 approaches:

  1. Created a custom report type relating Financial Accounts and Contacts and I was able to add all the required filters to get the results but the issue with this approach is that I am getting duplicate contacts in my report because a contact can have more than one active financial account. I dont want duplicate contact records. To avoid this I went through 2nd approach.
  2. Using Cross Filters : I created report on 'Contact' object and added cross filter as 'Contacts with Financial Accounts' but when I try to add filters from the child object I cant, because but when I select the option , I get the fields for the Junction object and not the Financial Account object (Contact and Financial Account have many to many relationship).

Any ideas how to add the filters from the Financial Account object in the 2nd approach? Or any ideas how to create the report by using any other approach?

  • what is the relation between contact to this junction object? is that Master-Detail? – Santanu Boral May 5 '17 at 17:29
  • Yes, master detail to both Contact and Financial Account object – Salesforce Newbie May 5 '17 at 17:54
  • Hi, did you solve this issue? – jm. Oct 8 '19 at 13:33

Here is the approach.

  1. You need to create a report type on Contact with Junction object like this: report type

  2. Use cross filter Contacts with Contact-Financial Junction, so only those records which have financial account exist will display in report.

  3. The report will be either Summary or Matrix report to show the grouping based on Contact Name.

Summary report

In the above grouping, you can see CONT_NM0 has 2 financial Accounts

If you do not use grouping it will display duplicate Contact Name like this in tabular report which you don't want:

tabular report

  • Hi Santanu, Thanks for the response and I appreciate your time and help. I am not sure if Marketing journey builder supports the Summary format report, I need to check that. But if it supports, then I can modify the report that I created from the first approach itself. Otherwise, unfortunately this approach is not solving my issue. – Salesforce Newbie May 5 '17 at 19:56
