While Creating a Master Detail Relationship, there is a Column named as " Master Detail Option ". Under this section, there are 2 options for Sharing Setting ( Select the minimum access level required on the Master record to create, edit, or delete related Detail records )

  1. Read Only: Allows users with at least Read access to the Master record to create, edit, or delete related Detail records.
  2. Read/Write: Allows users with at least Read/Write access to the Master record to create, edit, or delete related Detail records.

Please clarify what do these Options mean in Detail.

Thanks

What is it that you do not understand? Seems pretty clear already. – Eric Mar 16 '17 at 18:04

The options control who can write (CRUD generally) detail records, which some people think of as child records. The ability to write detail records is based on the combination of the toggle and the user's rights to the Master/Parent record.

The result of what you wrote as option 1 is that having read-access to the parent would let a user write child (detail) records. This is relatively permissive. An example would be if you have can read a "school" record, you could write detail records like "classrooms" or "classes".

The result of option 2 is that having read/write access to the parent would let a user write child (detail) records. This is more restrictive because having read/write access is more significant than having merely read-access. With this access, you could only insert a "classroom" if you could update the "school" record.
