Can a Journey Builder interaction be stopped or started through automation studio or stopping and activating an interaction from the Interaction screen is the only option?

whereas you can start a Journey via Automation Studio using the Fire Event activity, it is not possible to stop an interaction via Automation Studio.

The API, however, allows you to stop an interaction: https://code.exacttarget.com/apis-sdks/rest-api/v1/interaction/postStopInteractionById.html

  • To expand on this answer, a running Interaction can either be stopped from the Interaction Canvas in Journey Builder, or by using the API. Once you stop an Interaction, all Contacts currently in the Interaction will be ejected from it. – Eliot Harper May 11 '16 at 11:02
  • @EliotHarper Thanks. Appreciate your help. However i have a follow up question on this. If an interaction is stopped mid way, is there a way to identify and track users who managed to enter into the journey but didn't receive emails(as part of JB interaction) or those who entered the journey and received interaction specific emails ?. The idea is to track and keep a count of contacts who were left out in the journey when it was stopped mid way. – Ajit Mishra May 19 '16 at 7:17
  • Hello Ajit, remember that Send Email Activities are actually Triggered Sends. So the easiest method to see emails that have been sent from an Interaction is to select Sends from the Tracking menu in the Email app, then in the left panel, expand Journey Builder Sends, select the version of the Interaction, then you can click on the message name and export the data from clicking on the Total Sent number in the Summary panel. – Eliot Harper May 19 '16 at 7:33
  • @EliotHarper Thanks.Appreciate your help. have a follow up question. Suppose2 interactions are using the same DEand they both have different entry events, one allow 5contacts to enter while the other only 2 contacts. Will there be two 'High water marks' inserted into the DE for each interaction, to keep a track of newly inserted records in the DE and satisfy the entry conditions for the 2 interactions. Also in case same DE is being used by numerous interactions having different entry conditions, will there be multiple Water Marks created corresponding to each inter. to identify new records? – Ajit Mishra May 19 '16 at 8:42
  • Hello Ajit, I actually haven't tested that for a while, but I recall the behaviour is that there is only one high watermark in a DE and it's global; if you use that same DE as an Event Source in another Event, it will observe that same high watermark. So if you add 5 records to the DE and an Event fires, then the high watermark will be set, so if another Event fires and no records have been added to the DE, then they will not enter the Event. However I'd encourage you to double-check that's actually the behaviour. – Eliot Harper May 19 '16 at 11:12
