2014 Moderator Election

On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

This election ended Oct 7 '14 at 20:00.

The results of this election can be viewed online via OpaVote. Anyone may download the election data. Voters have access to pre-built OpenSTV software to audit the results; all others may use this source distribution

630 voters were eligible, 388 visited the site during the election, 263 visited the election page, and 182 voted

My name is Regal and I would like to nominate myself.

Why Me?

SFSE is a very good learning resource, & would like to consider me one of the part of its success stories.

Started from Stackoverflow I learned skills of moderation & etiquettes of welcoming users seeking for help. With this experience I've confidence of moderation.

My time zone gives perfect time slot for monitoring site activities.

I spend a min. of 3-4 hrs a day on SFSE and whenever you visit my profile you will see my last activity happened minutes ago.

What will I do as a mod?

The same thing I've always done, but being a moderator my participation will be with more power & enthusiasms. I am a good responder. All spams will be deleted in a blink of eye.

I'll organise posts, fix broken sentences, guide users etc.

I exactly know what to expect.

My Background:

I feel a great happiness to see super talented users contributing the community. I've been working on this platform since 3 yrs. & gone through almost all constructs of SFDC. Also, I do have skills in iOS, Android, Java, HTML5 etc. It will help me in taking decision on keeping questions in scope of SFDC.

Questions are welcomed :)

I'm going to throw my hat in the ring.

I've only been part of the community for 8 months, but over those months I've put in a lot of effort to contribute to the community in a meaningful way and it would be great if I could take that to the next level as part of the moderation team.

I may not be top of the leaderboards for moderation tasks, but considering my short time in the community compared to some of the other members I'd say that my statistics compare favourably.

I take moderation seriously and take great care when going through the review queue to make sure that edits, flags, etc are appropriate before I approve or reject them.

I try my best to guide people on how to improve their questions by asking leading questions in comments, even if I know that ultimately I won't be able to help them due to their question being in an area outside my expertise.

My main weakness is that I don't do enough to guide new users at the moment. We have some great examples of people who do this really well and don't rely on the canned comments when they flag a post. I need to follow in their footsteps and will endeavour to do so in the future.

Nominations are limited to 1200c. I take this seriously and need more; full@pastebin Please read it

I have a focus on guiding new members and having them shape questions that are easier to answer but also more specific to the real issue so that they are easier found by the 100's or 1000's of others who will face the same issue in the future. As a community we should not only be here to help to solve questions, but to guard the accumulated knowledge and solutions represented in the answers given.

  • I can't think of anyone who has put more effort into the moderation side of things - I'll be voting for you. – Bob Buzzard Sep 24 '14 at 12:37
  • Agree with Bob. I have seen all the time and effort you put in already trying to improve questions, make suggestions, and guide new users. I feel like you are already acting as a moderator today and doing very well. LaceySnr and metadaddy are obvious choices, but you certainly have my vote to replace Saariko. Awesome work! – Chris Duncombe Sep 24 '14 at 14:30
  • I was waiting for your nomination, Samuel. Will vote for you for sure! – Sergej Utko Sep 24 '14 at 17:30
  • I can't remember the last time I saw a question that hadn't been edited by Samuel! You do a fantastic job curating the data on here for users present, past and future! – Simon Lawrence Sep 25 '14 at 9:09
  • The Steward badge speaks for itself. +1, thanks for the contributions! – jkraybill Sep 26 '14 at 4:17
  • Your replies to many of the posts really helped me a lot and I would like to nominate you. – Sapthagiri Sep 26 '14 at 20:12

I would like to nominate myself as the moderator.I have 4.8 yrs of experience in salesforce. I have been active in this community for more than 1 year and now i think i can contribute more by being a moderator.

  • I am not being against your nomination, anybody here has the right to put forward their nomination. Answering 1 question so far and nominating yourself would be unjust to the nominee list. I wish you good luck and urge you to participate more in this forum with the experience you have acquired in the past 5 years. Moderation requires dedication which is shown by being an active participant cheers :) - rao – Rao Sep 24 '14 at 17:34

Hi Team,

I'd love to keep moderating this site, I hope everyone has found the moderation so far to be fair and timely! I appreciate every user on here, and want to thank everyone for the effort they've put in over the last two and a half years to bring us to this point.

  • LaceySnr was a pivotal figure two years ago here in Melbourne to get the Salesforce SE up and running, so he'd definitely get my vote! – Nick Cook Sep 23 '14 at 0:58
  • I like how this shows that I've raised 0 helpful flags, yet I've handled (as a moderator) 550 flags! – Matt Lacey Sep 23 '14 at 0:59
  • Great effort LaceySnr - so happy to see our baby today :-) – Saariko Sep 23 '14 at 12:55
  • This site wouldn't have happened without you. +infinity votes. – jkraybill Sep 26 '14 at 4:05

Happy to contribute if extra hands are needed. Matt Lacey and Pat Patterson are the obvious candidates in addition to those from the high-activity list.

  • I think it is reasonable to ask this, as I am considering to vote for you as a candidate: have you chosen not to display your name or is it by design? – Bart Sep 23 '14 at 6:32
  • the name stuck :-) – bigassforce Sep 23 '14 at 22:24
  • A few of us have known his secret identify for a while, good to see it out in the open though :) – Matt Lacey Sep 24 '14 at 1:10
  • I'm not going to be happy until you've changed your name by deed poll. My name is Force. BigAss Force :D – Phil Hawthorn Sep 24 '14 at 18:30
  • user320 is no more?! :-O – Simon Lawrence Sep 25 '14 at 9:08

Having been on the site since its creation, I have a good understanding of the mechanics of the site and what makes a good question, answer, and comment. I also have a solid background in Salesforce and Force.com development to be able to know when an answer is way off or not. As of late, it seems that as our site grows, I'm unable to answer as many questions as I used to to - there's a lot of smart folks on here! I'd still like to contribute, and think moderating would be a good way to do that.

  • my vote goes to you , you have solved multiple queries in SFSE and would love to nominate you as one of the moderators :) – Rao Sep 25 '14 at 3:05

I'd like to carry on the work I've been doing here on Salesforce StackExchange for the past two years (wow - is it that long!?). While I'm definitely not the most prolific answerer, I have an eye for detail, and enjoy editing posts, defusing comment wars, and generally being a 'human exception hander' here on SF SE.

While it's not essential, I think there's also value to the site in having a salesforce.com (SFDC) staffer on the moderation team. I act as the SF SE champion within SFDC, bringing the concerns of the community to the company, and defending SF SE against those who say "Just go to the Developer Forums" :-)

  • You definitely get my vote! Having an SFDC employee on is a huge bonus for the site. – Matt Lacey Sep 22 '14 at 23:03
  • A great asset to this site. Not that your other skills and knowledge are less of important, indeed, a hook in Salesforce is indeed a nice addition to SFSE. – Saariko Sep 23 '14 at 12:56
  • Really two years? I remember when we were trying to get enough people to get it started. Doesn't seem that long ago! – Francis Sep 24 '14 at 15:50
